Asia Argento, born in Rome to a family that includes directors and actors, was a professional in both fields. Asia started directing short films in the year 1994. Two of them were made: Prospettive in 1996. She directed a document about her father; and Abel/Asia from 1998. Both focused on the legendary director Abel Ferrara. This latter was presented at the Rome Film Festival. Asia started directing her first feature film in 1999 with Scarlet Diva (2000). She was also the main actress, and the author for the screenplay. It premiered on 20 May on the 20th of May in Italy as well as all over the world. This film was awarded during the Williamsburg Festival in Brooklyn, New York. Anna Lou, her first child, was born in the year 2001. She directed a number of music videos. The year 2002 saw Asia appear as Jean-Marc Bar's co-star The Red Siren (Olivier Megaton) as well as Vin Diesel was the star in Rob Cohen's thriller The Action.
